Why go here

After a look around Dushanbe, head towards Iskanderkul. The contrast between city life and a quiet lake makes this an approachable first trip to the country. The mountain road is part of the journey, not a quick transfer.

Dushanbe offers a gentle city start before the road into the Fann Mountains. At Iskanderkul, the point is to stay by the lake rather than turn straight back. Mountain driving can take longer than expected, so we build in a buffer. It is a short introduction to Tajikistan without a demanding multi-day trek.
