From Tashkent we head into Ugam-Chatkal National Park. The walk between the lower and upper lakes is the centrepiece. We confirm trail conditions and pace before departure because mountain weather and roads can change.

Urungach unfolds on foot. You first reach the lower lake, then climb towards the upper one as the water colour and surrounding terrain shift. The walk and pauses by the shore are the point, so there is no need to pack every hour with extra stops. For a first mountain walk, the right pace matters more than distance. We discuss the climb and trail conditions before setting out.
