Mangystau calls for an expedition mindset. From Aktau, travel to Bozzhyra and other geological sites along a route safe for the season. The drives are long, but the scenery changes throughout.

Mangystau needs preparation: long distances, unpaved roads and weather dependence. Bozzhyra rewards the journey, especially in softer evening light. We discuss vehicles, overnight stays and limited infrastructure in advance. This trip is for travellers drawn to an expedition feel and unusual geology.
